When we think about a good night of sleep, most of us will admit we don’t get it several times per week. The mind needs plenty of rest for the memory to work like it should. One way to significantly improve your memory is to get enough sleep on a daily basis.
In order for that to occur though you will have to make some changes to your routine. The amount of sleep you need can be very different from someone else so think about how much it takes for you to wake up rested, refreshed, and very alert.
The dishes in the kitchen may have to wait, the paperwork on your desk may have to wait until the weekend, and even the laundry in the hall may not get put away. If you are doing many things at night then you may be over stimulating the brain. This may make it much harder for you to turn it off and to unwind before you go to sleep.
Create a night time routine such as soaking in a bath, listening to soft music, reading, or other activity that you enjoy. It should be something that is low key so that you will be able to calm yourself and to get a terrific night of sleep day after day.
Then you need to make sure you get to bed at an early enough time each night to get up in the morning when you need to with enough sleep in between. Try to go to bed at the same time each night and then get up at the same time the following day. By doing so you can train both your mind and your body to sleep when you want it to.
This will prevent you from having trouble falling asleep, tossing and turning, and even waking up through the night. Keep in mind that those hours of sleep don’t count if you aren’t getting good rest during them. Make sure the room is dark, quiet, you have a good pillow, and a comfortable mattress.
You aren’t going to believe the difference that getting enough rest makes for you to improve your memory. When the mind is in a deep state of rest it can be relaxed, rejuvenated, and stressors are reduced. A mind that doesn’t get that has a harder time focusing and recalling information. |
